We’re certainly not the experts on all of these questions, but this is something we’ve considered also. Pete Richardson (our Founder) tells the story of visiting Tom many years back, and Tom could see something was on Pete’s mind. As Tom made tea in the next room, he asked Pete what was going on: “I’m trying to figure out how to scale myself” said Pete. “You can’t!” Tom yelled back, from the other room, “There’s only one of you!” It brought a smile and healthy realization that this kind of work isn’t scalable in terms of time, but it is scalable in terms of quality and experience. You can scale your revenue by getting really good at the work, and being able to charge a premium price. This is how world-class restaurateurs think, or how the best coffee shops thrive. Furthermore, a few Guides have also created some scale by working to open up accounts (whether in LifePlan or StratOp) that are larger than they can serve alone. These situations are rare, but they then bring in other Guides to serve alongside, and develop a simple 1099 relationship in those cases.
