086: Nate Childs, CMO of Otter Products, on Servant Leadership

Today we are joined by Nate Childs, Chief Marketing Officer of Otter Products, where he leads global marketing and customer service functions. Nate joined Otter back in 2011 as a customer service manager. Nate’s passion is servant leadership, a theme we really enjoyed exploring in this conversation.

“Servant leadership and good leadership is much more about who we are than what we do. Those things will flow from who we are. When I take that a step further and reflect on who we are, and think about the word integrity, which makes me think of integer and whole. To live a whole live means we have strong values that are a part of us, no matter where we go. That means at home, at work, school, church, wherever that maybe. You know what you’re going to expect from this individual. When that fullness, that whole of an approach is in place, good actions flow from that individual.”

And on his transition from leading customer service to leading global marketing efforts, Nate explains: “Good leadership is transferable across technical areas. Leadership is so much about enabling the teams to do what they do well. I don’t have to be the smartest person in the room, I don’t have to have all the answers and I certainly don’t have all the experience.”
